A woman is in the hospital after she was struck by a vehicle late Tuesday night.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with Phoenix PD, the woman was crossing 32nd Street outside of a crosswalk near Thomas Road at about 11 p.m.

Officers on scene said a vehicle traveling northbound on 32nd Street swerved to avoid hitting the woman and a southbound vehicle over-corrected and struck her.

Fortune said the woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive.

The driver remained on scene. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash, Fortune said.

The investigation is ongoing.
