A man is still missing after jumping into a Grand Canyon river Friday attempting to rescue his wife.

Canyoneers, a commercial river trip company, was getting ready for a day hike when a 65-year-old woman went into the river at Clear Creek.

Mike Howard, 67, jumped in to assist his wife.

The couple swam through Clear Creek Rapid before the woman was rescued by the river trip company.

The trip went to Phantom Ranch where they reported the incident. The woman was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

Howard is from Simi Valley, Calif. He was last seen in Clear Creek Rapid. He is 6 feet tall and weighs about 190 pounds. He has blue eyes, gray and brown hair and a long, gray beard. He was wearing shorts, a yellow T-shirt and Keen water shoes.

With no additional clues found along with increased water turbidity, the search has been scaled back, officials said Monday.
