The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating after a woman was found dead on the right shoulder of eastbound Interstate 10 southeast of Eloy.

Late Sunday night, troopers responded to a fatal crash on eastbound I-10 near milepost 216, according to DPS.

A 9-1-1 caller stated that a female had been thrown from a vehicle.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they located a female in her 20's who had been killed, DPS said. She was found on the right shoulder.

DPS said no involved vehicles were on the scene.

Witnesses are currently being interviewed by troopers.

All eastbound traffic was leaving the highway at exit 211, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Alternative routes included the east frontage road, where traffic was re-entering the highway at milepost 219.

Eastbound lanes reopened just after 7:30 a.m. Westbound lanes were unaffected.
